He was particularly interested in the emotional and spiritual potential of color, and he believed that certain colors had the power to evoke specific feelings or states of mind. Color Theoryįranz Marc developed his own color theory, which he believed could convey emotions and moods. It was a groundbreaking publication that helped to establish the Blue Rider movement as a significant force in modern art. The purpose of the journal was to promote the expressionist movement in art and to explore new ways of representing the world through abstract and symbolic forms. The art journal, also called Der Blaue Reiter, was published from 1912 to 1914 and included contributions from artists such as August Macke, Paul Klee, and Gabriele Münter. They rejected the academic tradition of realistic representation and instead sought to create new forms of expression that were more in tune with the modern world. The group was made up of a loose collective of artists who shared a common interest in expressing spiritual and emotional content through abstract art. The name of the movement was inspired by a painting by Kandinsky of a blue knight riding a white horse. Co-founder of Der Blaue Reiterĭer Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) was an art movement founded in Munich, Germany in 1911 by Franz Marc and Wassily Kandinsky. His artwork has had a significant impact on the way animals are depicted in modern art, and his legacy as an artist who saw the beauty and value in all living creatures continues to inspire people around the world. Marc’s love of animals was also reflected in his personal life, as he owned several pets and was known to spend time observing and studying animals in nature. He frequently used specific colors to represent different animals, such as blue for horses and yellow for cows, which helped to convey the emotional and spiritual qualities he saw in them. Marc’s paintings often depicted animals in a dreamlike or mystical way, with vibrant colors and bold, expressive brushstrokes. He believed that animals were pure and innocent, and he saw them as a symbol of the harmony and balance that he believed was missing in modern society. Love of Animalsįranz Marc had a deep love and respect for animals, which was reflected in much of his artwork. Marc was particularly drawn to the expressive potential of color and began to experiment with the use of bold, bright hues in his paintings.ĭespite the academic training he received, Marc’s work reflected his own unique style and approach, which would go on to inspire future generations of artists. He also became friends with other artists, including August Macke and Wassily Kandinsky, who would later become his co-founder of the art journal Der Blaue Reiter. As a young man, he initially planned to study theology, but his passion for art led him to enroll in the Munich Academy of Fine Arts in 1900.ĭuring his time at the academy, Marc studied under several notable artists, including Gabriel von Hackl and Wilhelm von Diez, who had a significant influence on his early artistic development. Early Life and Educationįranz Marc was born on February 8, 1880, in Munich, the capital city of the Kingdom of Bavaria. It also delves into elements like involvement with Der Blaue Reiter, reaction toward World War I, inspirations behind stylistic choices & condemnations faced at hands of Nazi regime – all contributing significantly towards understanding who he was truly beyond just an artist. This blog aims to shed light on some interesting facts regarding Franz Marc’s life and art such as his love for animals which influenced much of his work. Even though Marc passed away young, his artistic legacy has remained intact over time as many continue to be inspired and fascinated by his paintings globally. One of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter group – he played a significant part in modern art’s development. Franz Marc, a renowned artist from Germany during the early 20th century, was an influential figure in the German Expressionist movement his distinctive artworks that often flaunted animal motifs and vivid colors illustrated his inclination towards natural world’s innocence and purity. Not getting enough quality sleep on a regular basis can affect your mood, concentration, and health. Most adults need around 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. If you notice any areas where you’d like to make changes, emphasize these in your self-care plan. When considering physical self-care, identify the needs you have, and note any steps you currently take to meet those needs. Physical self-care needs include the things that help keep your body functioning well. Start by taking stock of your physical needs “When you recall moments of childhood that felt innocent, these moments are often more deeply impactful as you work to invite that experience into the present,” Dew says.Īs you begin to identify key moments and actions that helped you find peace before, explore ways to incorporate them into your present life. He explains specific memories can help recreate calm and wellness in your life. “Self-care is most beneficial when it’s informed by your own story,” Dew says. Perhaps it was the relative absence of responsibilities, or a sense of playfulness you can’t easily access now. Think of a time when you felt relatively happy and positive about life, even if you have to go back to childhood or late adolescence. Try to make self-care goals you can accommodate alongside work and other responsibilities. Self-care should happen all the time, not just when you feel most stressed.Īfter all, regularly tending to needs can help prevent you from reaching a point of high stress in the first place. When it comes to self-care, best practice means regular practice. Too many commitments, even enjoyable ones, tends to increase stress, since this leaves you without time to simply sit and process your own thoughts - another essential part of self-care. Overloading your schedule with activities meant to boost wellness can leave you the opposite of relaxed. But if doing so allows you to spend more time with your children and you can afford it, this value may be worth it.Ī good rule of thumb is to make sure the cost doesn’t increase your stress. The cost of getting takeout on work nights instead of trying to cook (not your strong point) may add up quickly. If you only stop in once a week, you might end up feeling more stressed by the cost than recharged from the increased activity.Īt the same time, there’s nothing wrong with spending money on something that really works. Say you join an expensive gym with the goal of exercising more. In this case, an indoor garden of succulents or other easy-care plants might be a good alternative. If you truly don’t see yourself sticking with something, remember: You have plenty of other options. While you can absolutely work to overcome these issues, there’s no need to force yourself to do something you don’t enjoy. Maybe you’ve read about the benefits of gardening and want to start a garden, but you really dislike dirt, and grubs and worms churn your stomach. Your self-care plan won’t have much benefit if you don’t put it into action. It might take a little effort to develop, but you’ll probably find this investment entirely worth it in the long run.įirst, a few things to ask yourself throughout the processĪs you get into the specifics of self-care, use these questions to help keep your plan workable and relevant to your needs. “It’s important to think about the needs currently going unmet and the self-care that is uniquely fit to meet those needs,” he says.Ī solid self-care checklist will reflect your specific needs, habits, and time considerations. So, how are you supposed to know what works for you? Yes, that means there’s no one-size-fits-all self-care checklist, despite what the internet might tell you. And even partners in close, healthy relationships tend to have different needs for things like companionship, exercise, and leisure time. Your go-to approach for managing stress may not help your best friend. Self-care doesn’t look the same for everyone, however. That’s what makes self-care - practices that promote mind and body wellness - so important. When you feel physically and emotionally well, it’s often easier to navigate stressors in healthy and productive ways. When challenges you face prove difficult to handle, it can tax your emotional health, especially if your overall well-being already has some room for improvement. You’ll not experience jump scares so much as being constantly unnerved: something topples over out of the corner of your eye or a distant figure twists in your direction. As there is no gore for Gylt to rely on, you are instead stalked by a sense of utter dread. Every level delivers a thick dose of “spook,” with murky corridors, limited field of vision, and creepy silhouettes. The “Teen” rating makes it far too mild for a direct Silent Hill or Outlast comparison, but it certainly takes inspiration from them. The most steadfast aspect of Gylt is its horror atmosphere. These unresolved threads and Sally’s unfulfilling arc as a protagonist leave Gylt with a skin-and-bones narrative. Extra flavor elements seem to lack purpose and only add clutter instead of depth. However, her role is more observer than actor, and the trail she follows ends up being one-note and predictable. Sally is a genuinely empathetic character whose story is an attempt at a fresh perspective on a difficult topic. Some are intriguing and subtle, such as the canary imagery sprinkled throughout. Gylt‘s theme focuses on bullying, and the environment is slathered in references to this. If you have been impacted by bullying and need help, please contact a professional.” Tequila Works, 2019. Although horror game veterans will find these mechanics familiar (if not elementary), Gylt creates an effective introduction for teens or anyone new to the horror genre. The game routinely adds mechanics, thoroughly tutoring you through each obstacle. After learning how to stealth, you will eventually receive limited opportunities to fight, if you prefer that approach. There are fetch quests and puzzles, but most of the gameplay occurs in how you dance around the enemies in your path. To a certain extent, players can receive a different ending to the story (at least three).Īt its core, Gylt is a stealth game. Sally must find ways past (or through) several types of monsters and reach Emily so the two of them can escape. Sally unwittingly enters another dimension, discovering that the town has suffered some kind of devastation and that Emily has been trapped there for some time. You play as Sally, a young girl who has been relentlessly searching for her missing cousin Emily. With a visually pleasing art style, consistently unnerving atmosphere, and engaging stealth mechanics, Gylt manages to be an enjoyable six-hour experience despite a relatively flimsy narrative. Gylt (2019) is a third-person horror-lite adventure from Tequila Works ( Deadlight, Rime) and a Google Stadia Exclusive, available through the currently free two-month trial of Stadia Pro. More importantly this clip works – and it works very well. It’s a very secure fit so I’m not complaining. First of all, it is made of titanium and secures with a single bolt. For a smaller handle it fits me pretty well I’m able to get a 4 finger grip without any trouble and I can easily control the blade. There is a nice thumb ramp with good functional jimping and a very shallow choil is also present. There is nothing too complicated with the ergonomics of this knife either. This adds an additional layer of collectability to the knives. CRK also offers these knives with a huge variety of different graphics engraved into the handle. That said, if you want to get fancy, CRK can give you fancy, and this knife is available with a lot of interesting hardwood and micarta inlays. As far as construction goes, this is a minimalistic free-flowing design, and everything has been bolted together for easy take down. This finish will show wear, and I see some very light scratches on mine, but if you wanted to you could have the handles sandblasted again for a factory fresh finish. Indeed there are two thick pieces of 6Al4V titanium here and they have been given a nice sandblasted finish. One of the great draws to this knife is that the handle slabs have been made entirely from titanium. This is certainly a welcomed addition, and it’s great to see how CRK continues to refine and upgrade their knives. As of mid-2011 Chris Reeve has started making Sebenzas in S35VN, a slightly upgraded version of S30V. If you are already reading a Sebenza review I think an in-depth discussion of S30V is probably unnecessary, but suffice it to say that this is a very fine steel with excellent all-around properties including good edge retention and corrosion resistance. Being a classic drop point there is plenty of belly for your EDC tasks, and the entire blade has been given a nice durable stonewashed finish.īlade steel on my Sebenza is the tried and true S30V. The blade manages to maintain this thickness well, eventually tapering down to a sturdy point. Blade stock is 1/8″ thick, which is nice and stout for a smaller blade like this. The knife has been given a high hollow grind (a very shallow one) and the spine has been rounded, a very elegant touch. This is a great size for EDC and that is exactly what this knife was designed for – to be a high end edc knife. This knife has an overall length of 6.9″ a 2.94″ blade and a weight of exactly 3 ounces. The small Sebenza 21 is the little brother to the large Sebenza 21 (no surprises there, right?). It’s a very well known blade with an extremely loyal following.īut hey, it’s just a knife so I’m just going to treat it like I would any other, and try to provide you with a fair and honest review… General Dimensions and Blade Details In many ways this review is a challenge because for such an expensive knife, a lot of people have already given their opinion on it. You and me, about to discuss the Small Sebenza 21 made by Chris Reeve Knives (CRK) which retails for right around $350. Any reservations I once had about owning a $350 knife soon went out the window. However, as I wandered down the rabbit hole, and became further consumed by my blade obsession, justification for more expensive knives became easier to find. Well, at least I didn’t start out my little edged adventure with the thought of purchasing a $300+ knife. I don’t think many people get into the hobby of collecting knives with the idea that one day they will buy a pocket knife that costs hundreds of dollars. Small master bathroom ideas have a way of cutting corners. The shower and bathtub walls are mossy green-gray while the vanity is white marble and the floor has a mossy-brown shade of glossy tile. The corner shower leaves adequate room for a tub. But that back-lean does make the bathroom seem bigger, and that’s a good thing. The styling in this bathroom makes it seem to lean back. More beige stone storage is tucked into the corner opposite the bathtub. The vanity is beige stone with two floating open shelves. It’s used for the walls, floor, and tub coping. Its main motif is black tile with white grout. This is possibly the smallest bathroom we’ve looked at so far. But by using the doorway as a touchpoint, the narrow path left enough room for a tub on one side and a double sink on the other, all sunk into speckled granite. These homeowners were probably told they couldn’t fir a tub and twin sinks into their small master bathroom. A single stool is all the furniture your bathroom needs. Meanwhile, the will opposite the picture wall is tiled in bright yellow mosaic that shifts the mood of the entire master bathroom. But now, the rear wall is gray concrete, matching the stone floor. We’ve already seen this bathroom in green. You may be unswayed by the power of color, so here’s a persuasive demonstration. A gleaming floor lamp rises over the curvy standalone bathtub, and a stool hold your bath accessories. Below the concrete is a wood panel floor with aged diagonal parquet. The floor beneath the bathtub is concrete too, and the slab is slightly raised. But instead of colorful tiles, the wall is rough concrete. Here’s a small master bathroom with similar size and styling. The tub faces a French door so there’s a gorgeous view and lots of natural light. The inside of the tub is white, catching the white grout from the walls. The freestanding tub is a bright green that matches the mosaic wall tiles. In this master bathroom, color is still the central feature. A shower faucet is fixed above the tub, and the non-white sections of the wall and floor have gray tile with concentric arcs and circles in its patterns. The small master bathroom has pink accents on the wall, floor, and coping. This bathroom may seem childish, but it’s great if you’re secure enough in your masculinity to share a pink bathroom with your partner. A recessed bench behind the tub lets you store bath items or place potted plants. In this case, the bathtub fills one whole side of the bathroom. You could choose to sneak in a shower, but it depends on your priorities. There’s no storage space, so a quarter-circle stone caddy and recessed shelf are built into the shower wall.Īt the other extreme is a small master bathroom that only has a tub. In this case, the corner shower is walled with white tile and floored with a pale mosaic. There’s even a corner tub opposite the toilet.įor the barely-there master en-suite, you may not have space for anything beyond a shower. The open stone vanity and shelving make the bathroom feel more open, even though it only has one sink. In this bathroom, elongated rectangles from the recessed lights, floating shelves, and floor tiles. You can employ long, narrow shapes that make your space seem larger. Linear layouts are helpful for small spaces. The bathroom is all white except the black shower floor. The shower cubicle lies on one side while a toilet and pedestal sink can be tucked into another corner. Instead, the vanity becomes a dresser, with a large mirror, narrow drawers, and a slot where you can tuck in your make-up chair. To maximize the space in this small master bathroom, the sink is separate from the vanity. And the circular sinks are stainless steel to match the shower frames. The warm browns on the floor and walls make the room seem bigger. The longer side of the wall houses a speckled countertop with twin sinks and a large mirror. One corner houses the shower enclosure while the other corner has a toilet. This small master bath is visually divided into sections. The Spartan style of black tile and concrete help to set the mood. Two circular vessel sinks free up wall space while elevating your style. The floating vanity has a single row of drawers, leaving lots of floor space below. In this small master bathroom, everything is laid against one wall. When you have limited space to play with, you want to maximize your surfaces. Let’s look into some design ideas that could enlarge your small bathroom. So you need something simple and workable. You don’t want to feel claustrophobic … but you don’t want to spend excessively on your refurbishment either. In such cases, you need creative small master bathroom ideas. You may have to squash your bathroom into a converted closet. Meaning you may not have much room to play with. But the bathroom wasn’t part of the initial construction plan. Often, you have to build it yourself as you refurbish your home. If your home has a built-in master en-suite, you’re lucky.
